Season Opener | Huddersfield Town Hall

We open our new season with Epic Horizons – a bold and dramatic concert that sets the tone for an exciting year ahead. Join the Huddersfield Philharmonic Orchestra as we launch into sweeping soundscapes, heroic tales, and richly Romantic music.

Programme includes:
🎭 Berlioz – Overture: Benvenuto Cellini
An exuberant and fiery overture full of flair, colour and operatic drama from one of classical music’s most imaginative storytellers.

⚔️ Khachaturian – Spartacus: Suite No. 2
Full of passion, nobility, and unforgettable melodies – including the stirring Adagio of Spartacus and Phrygia, famously used as the theme to the 1970s TV series The Onedin Line.

🎼 Tchaikovsky – Symphony No. 3 (“Polish”)
Elegant, expansive and deeply expressive – the only Tchaikovsky symphony in a major key and the only one in five movements. We perform it almost exactly 150 years after its Moscow premiere, celebrating its historic significance and enduring power.

Set in the atmospheric surroundings of Holy Trinity Church, this programme has something for everyone – from ballet to carols, from Handel to holiday singalongs, all topped off with the golden-era charm of Bing Crosby.

A Symphonic Celebration at Holy Trinity Church

We close our concert season with an evening of sweeping melodies, folk-inspired rhythms, and atmospheric storytelling in "Echoes of the Romantic North" – a richly textured programme capturing the spirit of northern Europe’s Romantic tradition.

Conducted by Katherine Stonham, this classic symphonic concert showcases some of the 19th century’s most evocative and beloved works, performed in the beautiful surroundings of Holy Trinity Church.

🌿 Mendelssohn – Overture: A Midsummer Night’s Dream – sparkling, magical, and full of Shakespearean charm
🌊 Dvořák – The Water Goblin – a chilling and dramatic symphonic poem from Bohemia’s master of folklore

Adam is an actor, singer, after dinner speaker and teacher. His extensive theatre credits include: The Full Monty (National Tour), Of Mice and Men (Torch Theatre), Billy Elliott (Italian Tour), The Snow Queen (UAE Tour), Santa’s Missing Trousers (Torch Theatre), Seaside Special (Openwide International), Bridlington Summer Season,  Cinderella (Mark Andrews Productions) and A Midsummer Nights Dream (Made Up North Theatre).  His television credits include: Gladiators Epic Prank (CBBC), Player Prank (Sky), Micheal McIntyres Big Show (BBC) and Only Here for the Pier (Yorkshire TV).

He regularly tours all over the UK as an after dinner speaker with his shows “May Your Days be Merry and Bright” and “From West End to Broadway” and delivers one to one singing and vocal coaching lessons through his business Calderdalesingingteacher.co.uk

Summer House

Our end of season summer concert is always packed with beautiful music to round off our season. This year is no exception. Our horn section introduce us to a work written by the horn player of the Dresden Royal Court Orchestra and inspired by a similarly-named work by Robert Schumann, which he had played in the presence of the composer.

This is a concert suitable for young and old, with favourites from every generation included, so why not make it a family or group occasion (group tickets are available on request from the ticket secretary). This concert is not in the tradition of a formal concert and younger members of the audience will be especially welcome.

Hall of Fame 2023

We return with another Hall of Fame as the first concert of our 2023-2024 series, but the final performance as part of Kirklees Year of Music 2023 (#kyom23). We are delighted to perform former conductor Arthur Butterworth’s Mill Town almost 20 years to the day since the orchestra gave the debut performance here in the Town Hall. We also feature one of Dvořák’s best-loved symphonies.
