Dear orchestra these are the details for Saturday’s rehearsal and concert.
The rehearsal is 2.00pm to 4.30pm with the concert at 6.30pm. Dress for the concert is all black.
St. Bartholomew’s Church, Marsden is 7 miles west of Huddersfield in the A62 Manchester Road. I suggest that you drive past the right turn for Marsden (Peel Street) and instead take the next main right turn (Town Gate) which leads to the church. Go past the church entrance and turn next left into Clough Lea where it also says ‘Parochial Hall’. The car park is then the next left turn. The car park is not too big so please park intelligently and possibly be prepared to be blocked in. Can I suggest sharing cars as much as possible.
If travelling by public transport please note that there are no trains this Saturday, only bus replacements I’m afraid. This is sad as Marsden station is very near the church. There is however a 383 bus to Marsden Birker at 12.50pm from Huddersfield Bus station. Buses run every half hour during the day and hourly in the evening. When the bus turns right, from Manchester Road into Peel Street, get off at the 2nd stop. Turn left off Peel Street , cross the river by the foot bridge, walk across the grass and you’re there. The concert should finish at 8.30pm and there is a bus back at 8.57pm.
We have full use of the Parochial Hall where we can relax and eat our packed meals. Drinks will be available. The rehearsal and concert are in the church itself, and we will be setting up at 1.00pm. There is not as much percussion gear this time. Playing space in the church will be friendly but it’s a big church and the acoustic is good.
As we did at the Parish Church I will collect music from the front row of pews in the church after the concert. Please return all music on Saturday or the next Tuesday rehearsal.
You could consider making a day of it in Marsden and come in the morning. If you do that then I can recommend Katie’s Homemade Kitchen, at the corner of Peel Street and Market Street, for lunch. Katie is selling tickets for our concert and says she will be coming to the concert. Look her up on her website. She closes at 4.00pm. There are lots of walks around the centre of Marsden if you’ve never been before. I recommend walking from the station to Tunnel End on the canal towpath where you’ll find Hansons Music Shop occupying the ex-Visitor Centre.
If there is any more to add I will email further.
Best wishes
David
